The Torrents of Spring a romantic novel in honor of the passing of a great race
Ernest Hemingway
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1926, First Edition
Narrative Description:
First printing of the first edition of Hemingway's first novel; a satirical piece and parody of several authors of the day including Sherwood Anderson. It was instrumental in "Papa's" move from Boni & Liveright to Scribner's. Hanneman A4a. Per Hanneman the first printing consisted of 1250 copies. The limitation was further impacted in that Hemingway's books were among those banned and burned by the Nazi's.

Condition
Book: Good / Dust Jacket: Fair Light water damage to boards not affecting internal text. Small amount of wear to spine tips. Front hinge cracked at half-title but all pages still tight; the condition of the text block is very good. In first state DJ which has not been price-clipped (shows $1.50 original price, credits up to "In Our Time", undated ad for Scribner’s Magazine on rear flap, and list of 9 books on back panel). DJ has light soiling with damp staining, chips, tears and amateur tape-repairs primarily to the inside of the DJ. DJ spine has browned and is brittle resulting in several paper splits. It looks the way it would if Hemingway had taken it with him on a hunting trip or two and so has been priced accordingly and is being sold "AS IS". Given the significance of this title, and the limited number which have survived with the original dust jacket, it is still a worthy copy.
